The tree cast a fine shade which permanently cooled the temperature, yet there was no noise of birds.</p>

<div class="purport text"><p>Generally, in every tree there are bird nests, and the birds congregate in the evening and create noise. But it appears that this banyan tree was devoid of nests, and therefore it was calm, quiet and peaceful. There were no disturbances from noise or heat, and therefore this place was just suitable for meditation.</p>

Those trees are calculated to have a width of 100 yojanas (800 miles) and a height of 1,100 yojanas (8,800 miles). Their branches also spread to a radius of 1,100 yojanas.</p>

That tree is as broad and tall as the plakṣa tree—in other words 100 yojanas (800 miles) broad and 1,100 yojanas (8,800 miles) tall. Learned scholars say that this gigantic tree is the residence of Garuḍa, the king of all birds and carrier of Lord Viṣṇu. In that tree, Garuḍa offers Lord Viṣṇu his Vedic prayers.</p>

This hell has no shelter and is made of strong stone resembling the waves of water. There is no water there, however, and thus it is called Avīcimat (waterless). Although the sinful man is repeatedly thrown from the mountain and his body broken to tiny pieces, he still does not die but continuously suffers chastisement.</p>

And the importance of that city is due to this Sanātana Gosvāmī, because Sanātana Gosvāmī was authorized to go there and establish temples. So after Sanātana Gosvāmī and Rūpa Gosvāmī, hundreds and thousands of temples were constructed, and there are at least five thousand temples now, after Sanātana Gosvāmī.</p>

:vārāṇasī chāḍi' prabhu āilā nīlācala
<p>At Benares He was overcrowded with persons. Always there was tumultuous sound, "Hare Kṛṣṇa." And Caitanya Mahāprabhu left Benares and came back to Jagannath Purī. Jagannath Purī and Benares is not less than about eight hundred miles distance. So in those days there was no railway, no other conveyance. Caitanya Mahāprabhu had to travel through the jungles, and He came back to Jagannath Purī.</p>

<p>Prabhupāda: Sitting in this portion... (break) If I say "This is my portion," and if you are sitting in another portion and you say this  is your portion, so by chance if I step in your portion you become angry, or you step in my portion... We forget that we have come here temporarily to sit down. Why shall I demark like this, "This is my portion," "This is my portion"? So the system is already there, tena tyaktena bhuñjīthā ([[Vanisource:ISO 1|ISO 1]]). The Īśopaniṣad says that whatever is allotted to you, you may be satisfied with that. But they are not satisfied in that way. I am trying to encroach upon your, I mean to say, possession, you are trying to encroach upon my possession. Or we have actually all forgotten that we are all sons of God. This planet is given to us to live, so let us produce according to the methods and eat and live peacefully and remember God. That we are not doing. The Americans, they have got... What is the area of your land?</p>
<p>Śyāmasundara: I don't know.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Yes. I can measure it is about 3000 miles by 3000 miles. And whereas India is 1000 miles. What is the area of India? Maybe 1000 miles by 800 miles, whereas in America 3000 miles by 3000 miles. And the population is one quarter of India's. The land is four times than India, but the population is one quarter of India. So they can produce enough. Actually they are producing enough. And that can be distributed to the portion where the food is a scarcity. And that is arrangement of God. The land and the water given by God is sufficient for the whole population. Not only human beings—all beasts, birds... Sufficient food. But we are, I mean to say, mismanaging the whole thing. Therefore we find that India is poverty-stricken and America is throwing grains in the water. So actually, if we take the perfection made by God, that "This planet belongs to us, we human beings, and it is God's property, so let us live peacefully..." But..., but no. That is māyā. So therefore the whole solution of the problem is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. If people will understand that "We are all sons of Kṛṣṇa's. This land belongs to Kṛṣṇa, so let us enjoy our father's property without fighting..." That they will not do. And they will accuse that God has made incomplete. That is māyā. Otherwise from God's side everything is complete.</p>

In Europe, when we go over the mountain, huge mountainous tract, who knows about it? We are passing just like on a roof, aeroplane. You have seen? Huge. They have no information of what is there. And Switzerland...</p>
<p>Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Switzerland.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: I have seen mountain goat. Where it has gone, nobody knows. Still.</p>
<p>Bhakti-prema: In Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam it is described more or less. Himalaya Mountain is 80,000 miles high and 16,000 miles wide. So each of these mountains are 16,000 miles wide and 80,000 miles high. And that means it is start from Badrinath up to Siberia. That is 60,000 miles, er, 16,000.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: But height, they have no...</p>
<p>Bhakti-prema: 80,000 miles high.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: 80,000.</p>
<p>Bhakti-prema: We cannot measure. Aeroplane cannot...</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: You have measured only 28,000.</p>
<p>Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Feet.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Eh?</p>
<p>Yaśodānandana: Feet.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: It is feet only.</p>
<p>Yaśodānandana: That is only three and a half yojanas, and we say it is 80,000 miles high.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Read something.</p>
<p>Bhakti-prema: And they can travel only 800 miles high, the birds in the sky, but according to Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, after 800 miles there is air to breath for a human being. But there is air for ghost and piśāca and other different species. But if we move... There are Siddhas and Cāraṇas. They are also living there. And above that, there is Rahu planet. That means 80,000 miles high.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: That means Rahu planet we have connection.</p>
<p>Bhakti-prema: Yes. Rahu. And above that Rahu there is sun planet, and Sumeru mountain has connection with that because it is hurling again...</p>
<p>Yaśodānandana: It says right here.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Do it nicely.</p>

<p>Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: This is Jambūdvīpa, part of Jambūdvīpa. That is Ilāvṛta-varṣa in the square. We have... These mountains are each two thousand yojanas high.</p>
<p>Bhakti-Prema: After Mandara Meru, Mandara, that Mandara Mountains... And here he began to meditate. He meditated for six thousand years on this Mandara Mountain here. Then Pārvatī came, and she... Then next... These two mountains are like (describes sketch of planetary system, very difficult to hear) And here is the beautiful Indu stream(?). And it's heart is... Eight hundred miles.</p>
<p>Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Where is it?</p>
<p>Bhakti-Prema: On the Mandara Mountain. There are four different streams. This is Ilāvṛta-varṣa.</p>
<p>Yaśodānandana: This area?</p>
<p>Bhakti-Prema: Yes.</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Śivaloka? Śivaloka?</p>
<p>Bhakti-Prema: Yes, it is not actually Śivaloka, but residence of Lord Śiva.</p>
<p>Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: One of his... He described it that like during the summertime you go to a hill station. Each demigod has their place where they also go.</p>
<p>Bhakti-Prema: Śivaloka is different, but Lord Śiva is...</p>
<p>Prabhupāda: Summer residence.</p>
