Theme Analysis
After death, the soul does not become finished; it continues according to consciousness, desire, karma, and divine supervision. Śrīla Prabhupāda teaches that the human form of life is meant for preparing the next destination, because death removes the present body but not the living being. The wise person therefore asks where the soul will go, how the next body is determined, and how Kṛṣṇa consciousness can free one from repeated material birth.
- Continuing Soul: Death ends the present body, not the existence of the soul. A thoughtful person understands that the living being has gone elsewhere and that the body left behind was never the real self.
- Prepared Consciousness: The next destination is shaped by one's consciousness, desires, and activities in this life. Human life is therefore a preparation for what comes after death, not merely a chance for temporary enjoyment.
