Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that absolute knowledge is fundamentally different from the relative knowledge of the material world. It is not merely the impersonal negation of material duality, but the complete realization of Brahman, Paramātmā, and ultimately Bhagavān. Because the Supreme Lord is absolute, there is no difference between Kṛṣṇa and His holy name, form, qualities, or pastimes. By engaging in devotional service, one directly contacts absolute knowledge. Since our material senses are imperfect, Śrīla Prabhupāda stresses that we cannot attain this realization through mental speculation; we must receive it through paramparā, hearing directly from the Supreme Person or His bona fide representatives. A lack of this absolute knowledge is simply māyā, but when one is situated in it, the false conception of material life is completely removed.

  • The Ultimate Platform: True absolute knowledge goes beyond the impersonal Brahman and localized Paramātmā to the realization of Bhagavān, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
  • The Non-Dual Lord: Kṛṣṇa is identical to His name, form, and instructions. Associating with any of them means associating with absolute knowledge.
  • Beyond Illusion: The lack of absolute knowledge is the very definition of māyā, which keeps the conditioned soul bound by dualities.
  • The Descending Process: Absolute knowledge cannot be manufactured by the imperfect mind; it must be heard from the Absolute Truth via the disciplic succession.
  • The Spiritual Reality: In the absolute realm, everything is of the same spiritual quality, rendering all activities performed for the Lord equally absolute.
