Theme Analysis

The Vedic perspective of reality is not limited to one small planet; it encompasses a vast, multi-dimensional cosmic manifestation. Śrīla Prabhupāda frequently uses the phrase "all over the universe" to explain the profound mechanism of God's omnipresence. Using the perfect analogy of the sun and the sunshine, he explains that just as the sun globe is localized yet its light and heat are spread all over the universe, the Supreme Personality of Godhead remains in His original abode while His energies (both spiritual and material) pervade everything. Kṛṣṇa is the supreme source, and everything we see is simply an expansion of His potency.

Within this vast creation, the conditioned living entities are constantly wandering. Under the spell of māyā, they travel all over the universe, transmigrating from one species to another—sometimes acting as a demigod in the heavenly planets and sometimes as a mouse on earth. However, they are never alone. The Supreme Lord, in His Paramātmā feature, accompanies them. Furthermore, Kṛṣṇa sends His empowered representatives, like the great sage Nārada Muni, who possesses the mystic ability to travel all over the universe at the speed of mind. Nārada's sole business is to preach devotional service and rescue these wandering souls. Śrīla Prabhupāda notes that such interplanetary travel was common in the Vedic age, achieved not through clumsy mechanical spacecraft, but through finer mystic methods utilized by personalities like Bhīṣmadeva and Kardama Muni. Ultimately, Śrīla Prabhupāda guarantees that the saṅkīrtana movement, inaugurated by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, is destined to spread its liberating influence all over the universe.

  • The Sun and the Sunshine: The ultimate analogy for God's omnipresence. The Supreme Lord is localized, but His energies and His impersonal Brahman effulgence are spread all over the universe.
  • The Wandering Soul: The conditioned entity is sarva-gataḥ (able to go anywhere). Dictated by karma and material desires, the soul travels all over the universe, changing bodies in a futile search for happiness.
  • The Universal Preachers: Great saints like Nārada Muni and the Kumāras are not bound by material laws. They travel freely all over the universe specifically to distribute Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
  • Mystic Travel vs. Mechanical Spacecraft: In ancient times, advanced yogīs and kings like Kardama Muni and Bhīṣmadeva traveled all over the universe using subtle, mystic powers far superior to modern, mechanical rockets.
  • Universal Principles: The laws of nature, the influence of time, and the social divisions of varṇāśrama (guṇa-karma) are not Indian inventions; they operate actively all over the universe.
