Vaniquotes - the compiled essence of Vedic knowledge

Category:Atheistic People

Theme Analysis

In the Age of Kali, the population is predominantly atheistic. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that atheistic people are characterized by a sense of false proprietorship, thinking "I am the lord of all I survey." Because they are attached to sense gratification and gross materialism, they are unable to understand the Vedic literatures, which are meant for the faithful. The quotes reveal that such persons are baffled by the laws of nature, particularly death, which they are forced to accept as the Supreme authority. To claim these wayward souls, the Lord sometimes appears as Buddha to teach non-violence, or as Kalki to annihilate them, proving that even the atheist cannot escape the presence of God.

  • Inaccessibility of Scripture: The Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam are meant for the godly. Atheistic people, being envious or faithless, cannot enter into the mystery of these texts; for them, cultivation of Vedic knowledge is baffled.
  • The "Mine" Mentality: The core difference between a devotee and an atheist is the concept of ownership. The atheist thinks, "Everything belongs to me," whereas the devotee knows everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa.
  • Lord Buddha's Strategy: When people become too atheistic and addicted to animal killing, the Lord appears as Buddha. He "cheats" them by denying the Vedas to stop the violence, effectively tricking them into obeying God without their knowledge.
  • The Reality of Death: Atheistic people may deny God during their lifetime, but they cannot deny death. Śrīla Prabhupāda states that for the atheist, death is God.
