Theme Analysis

Human life is a struggle between the temporary identifications of the body and the eternal reality of the soul. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that liberation is not a state of voidness but is the process of getting out of the slumber of forgetfulness and becoming situated in the real loving service of the Lord. By transcending the modes of passion and ignorance through constant chanting and hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, the practitioner rises to the platform of goodness. On this transcendental platform, the influence of time—past, present, and future—is eclipsed by the eternal activities of the pure self, leading to the ultimate attainment of Vaikuṇṭha.

  • Rising Above the Modes: Through regular hearing and chanting, the contaminations of lust and greed diminish, allowing the devotee to become situated in the mode of goodness and eventually in pure transcendence.
  • Freedom from Duality: When a person becomes situated in their spiritual identity, they transcend the material dualities of happiness and distress, finishing the constant cycle of lamentation and hankering.
  • The Vision of Reality: One who manages to become situated in the transcendental position acquires the spiritual qualities of the Lord and gains the ability to see God eye to eye everywhere.
