The sacred Yamunā River holds an unparalleled position in the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and for Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, it served as an extraordinary catalyst for spiritual ecstasy. Because the Lord was constantly immersed in the mood of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī and deep separation from Kṛṣṇa, the mere sight or thought of the Yamunā immediately transported Him to Vṛndāvana. In His divine madness, He frequently mistook other bodies of water—including the Ganges River, the Godāvarī River, and the ocean at Jagannātha Purī—for the Yamunā, unhesitatingly diving into them in ecstatic love. When He did physically visit the Yamunā during His travels to Mathurā, He exhibited supreme transcendental symptoms, repeatedly jumping into the river and falling unconscious in bliss. Through these pastimes, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu demonstrated the absolute, non-different nature of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes and the holy dhāma.
