Category:Conquering God
Theme Analysis
The Supreme Personality of Godhead is known in the Vedic literatures as Ajita, the unconquerable. No one can conquer God through material power, beauty, intelligence, or wealth. The demons, being less intelligent, sometimes dare to fight with Lord Viṣṇu, foolishly thinking they can overpower Him. Similarly, speculative philosophers attempt to conquer the Absolute Truth through volumes of books and mental acrobatics. Both approaches are doomed to fail because the Supreme Lord cannot be conquered by limited, conditioned endeavors. However, there is one profound exception to this rule: the Lord willingly allows Himself to be conquered by the pure love of His unalloyed devotees.
How is this achieved? Lord Kṛṣṇa is conquered when a person gives up the nonsense process of empiric speculation and becomes entirely submissive. The process begins simply by hearing. By offering aural reception to the transcendental messages of the Lord from a self-realized soul (a mahātmā), one immediately begins to captivate the Supreme. As confirmed by great authorities like Lord Brahmā and Śrī Rāmānanda Rāya, submissive hearing is the essential key. It does not matter what one's material position is—whether rich or poor—if one submissively hears about Kṛṣṇa, the unconquerable Lord becomes conquered by that sincere devotion.
Ultimately, the Lord is bound by the strong ropes of affection and pure devotional service. A devotee who serves the Lord in all conditions of life without any desire for material profit completely conquers the heart of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In this sublime, reciprocal relationship, the devotee conquers the Lord with love, and in turn, the devotee is conquered by the Lord's supreme mercy and beauty. Thus, the topmost perfection of human life is to abandon all challenging attitudes and humbly surrender, thereby successfully capturing Ajita, the unconquerable Supreme Lord.
- The Unconquerable Lord: God is known as Ajita because no material power, beauty, or demoniac force can ever defeat Him.
- The Failure of Speculation: Mental speculators who try to understand God through empiric philosophy can never approach or conquer Him.
- The Power of Hearing: By submissively hearing the glories of the Lord from authorized sources, any person can conquer the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- Conquered by Love: The Lord willingly consents to be conquered by the sincere attachment and unmotivated devotional service of His pure devotees.
