Theme Analysis
In the Bhagavad-gītā (9.11), Lord Kṛṣṇa makes a profound declaration: avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam—"Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature as the Supreme Lord of all that be." Śrīla Prabhupāda uses this verse extensively to dismantle the philosophical misconceptions of Māyāvādīs, atheists, and mundane scholars. When Kṛṣṇa or His incarnations (like Lord Rāma or Lord Caitanya) descend into the material world, They exhibit pastimes that appear similar to human activities. Deluded by this, foolish persons (mūḍhas) conclude that Kṛṣṇa is an ordinary mortal or a product of material nature. They completely fail to understand His param bhāvam—His supreme, eternal, and blissful spiritual form.
This tendency to deride Kṛṣṇa is not a harmless intellectual mistake; it is a fatal spiritual offense. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that those who deride the Supreme Personality of Godhead are deeply infected by the empiric approach to philosophy and false vanity. Because they view Kṛṣṇa as a common man, all their attempts at liberation, philosophical speculation, and pious activities are ultimately frustrated. Their so-called scholarship is useless because they lack the service attitude required to penetrate the mystery of the Absolute Truth.
In stark contrast to the speculative philosophers, the pure devotees never deride the Lord. Through the authorized paramparā system and unalloyed devotional service, devotees understand that Kṛṣṇa's body and soul are non-different and completely transcendental. A true devotee cannot tolerate the blasphemy of the mūḍhas. As perfectly exemplified by the Pāṇḍava Nakula, a pure Vaiṣṇava is ready to fiercely defend the honor and supreme dominion of Lord Kṛṣṇa against anyone foolish enough to deride Him.
- The Mūḍhas' Mistake: Foolish persons deride Kṛṣṇa because they see Him in a human-like form and mistake Him for an ordinary, mortal man subject to material nature.
- Avajānanti Māṁ Mūḍhāḥ: Lord Kṛṣṇa personally condemns these so-called scholars and atheists in the Bhagavad-gītā, stating they are ignorant of His supreme, transcendental dominion.
- The Consequence of Offense: Those who deride the Supreme Lord guarantee the failure of all their pious, fruitive, and philosophical endeavors, ultimately condemning themselves.
- The Devotee's Vision: Unlike the Māyāvādīs, pure devotees understand Kṛṣṇa's absolute nature through loving service and are prepared to vigorously defend His supreme position.
