Theme Analysis

The eternal kingdom of God, often referred to as sanātana-dhāma, stands in stark contrast to the temporary, miserable material world. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that while the material manifestation is subject to creation, maintenance, and annihilation, the spiritual kingdom is eternal, sentient, and blissful. Situated in the paravyoma, or spiritual sky, this realm is the true home of the living entity. Because the soul is eternal, it can never find satisfaction in a temporary environment. Entry into this kingdom is reserved for those who are amūḍha—non-bewildered by the illusory energy—and who engage in pure devotional service. Upon entering, one may merge into the Brahman effulgence or, more perfectly, associate directly with the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His nitya-līlā, or eternal pastimes.

  • Nature of the Kingdom: It is sanātana (eternal), beyond the influence of the three modes of material nature.
  • The Soul's Need: Being eternal, the living entity can only be happy in an eternal atmosphere.
  • Qualification: Only the non-bewildered (amūḍha) who follow the spiritual master can enter.
  • Specific Abodes: Includes places like Dhruvaloka, Mathurā, Dvārakā, and Vaikuṇṭha.
  • The Urgency: Intelligent persons take every risk in this life to secure their place in this eternal realm.
