Theme Analysis

The human form of life affords the living entity a rare and special privilege: the ability to understand and follow the instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the ultimate purpose of life is to revive our lost relationship with Kṛṣṇa, and this is achieved solely by unhesitatingly following His instructions as given in authorized scriptures like the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. A true Aryan civilization is defined by strict adherence to these divine directives without deviation. Because the Lord is Absolute, His instructions are non-different from Him; therefore, following His word is identical to directly associating with Him. This supreme path of surrender is open to everyone, regardless of caste, creed, or social division (brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, or śūdra). While one must strictly follow the Lord's instructions, one must carefully avoid the dangerous pitfall of imitating His superhuman activities (such as lifting Govardhana Hill). Those who sincerely follow the Lord's instructions become free from the modes of material nature (nirguṇa) and ultimately return home, back to Godhead, while those who disobey are forced to suffer in concocted, materialistic conditions.

  • The Purpose of Human Life: The human form is specifically designed to understand the Supreme Lord and follow His instructions, which is the true mark of an advanced, Aryan civilization.
  • Association Through Instructions: Because Kṛṣṇa is Absolute, His instructions are non-different from His personal form; following His orders means constantly associating with Him.
  • Universal Accessibility: The process of surrendering to the Lord's instructions is not restricted by caste or social status; anyone in any position can achieve perfection by following them.
  • Following vs. Imitating: A conditioned soul must strictly execute the Lord's instructions but must never attempt to artificially imitate His omnipotent actions.
