Theme Analysis

Prahlada Maharaja is revered throughout the Vedic literatures as one of the twelve mahajanas (great authorities) of devotional service. Born into a family of demons, he perfectly exemplified extreme humility, tolerance, and unwavering devotion to the Supreme Lord despite facing constant persecution. Srila Prabhupada explains that the primary duty of the Krsna consciousness movement is to follow in the footsteps of Prahlada Maharaja by rejecting materialistic education and the illusion of mundane happiness. Instead, a pure devotee must dedicate their life to compassionately preaching Krsna consciousness to a suffering, godless society. By following his example—remaining completely undisturbed by the impediments created by nondevotees and understanding the perishable nature of the material body—a sincere practitioner easily finds the door to liberation open and ultimately learns to see Krsna at every step.

  • The Exalted Standard of Humility: Prahlada Maharaja is the practical example of humility and freedom from animosity. By learning to be more tolerant than a tree, a devotee is guaranteed to be accepted by Lord Nrsimhadeva.
  • Rejecting Material Illusion: Following Prahlada means gaining the realization that all material opulence and sensual pleasures are perishable, and boldly rejecting the rascals who falsely claim to be God.
  • Preaching Among Demons: In a world where ninety-nine percent of people are godless, the high-class Vaisnava takes up Prahlada's mission to teach the world how to be truly happy, remaining undisturbed by demoniac impediments.
  • The Open Door to Liberation: By strictly following Prahlada Maharaja and avoiding the crushing wheel of samsara, the devotee easily attains liberation and achieves the supreme vision of seeing Krsna at every step.
