Category:Glorifying Devotees of God
Theme Analysis
In the absolute realm of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the Supreme Lord and His unalloyed devotees are inseparable. Consequently, glorifying the pure devotee is identical to glorifying the Lord. In fact, according to the secret of devotional service, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is actually more pleased when His servants are praised than when He is glorified directly. This divine principle is the foundational knowledge of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, which is composed entirely of the intertwined glories of Bhagvān and the bhagavad-bhakta. When great souls like Śukadeva Gosvāmī or Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu speak about the qualities of pure Vaiṣṇavas, they become overwhelmingly happy, sometimes appearing as though they have multiple faces just to describe the unlimited spiritual power of the devotees.
Because the Lord deeply loves His devotees, He specifically orchestrates events in the material world to establish their eternal fame. For instance, the severe tests and austerities imposed upon Bali Mahārāja were not meant to destroy him, but rather to give him the strength to tolerate adversity so that his reputation as a great, surrendered soul would be sung throughout the three worlds forever. Similarly, the Lord arranged for the Pāṇḍavas to perform the Aśvamedha sacrifices and win the Battle of Kurukṣetra so that their virtuous fame could be broadcast in all directions. Even when the Lord descends in a particular dynasty, such as the Yadu dynasty, He does so primarily to glorify that family because of their pure devotion.
For the aspiring practitioner, glorifying the devotees of God is not merely a formality; it is the actual perfection of the senses. As confirmed in the Hari-bhakti-sudhodaya and by the practical behavior of the mahājanas, the true purpose of the tongue is to chant the glories of the Vaiṣṇavas. Whether it is Nārada Muni constantly broadcasting the devotion of the Pāṇḍavas, or the general public appreciating the transformative preaching of Haridāsa Ṭhākura, engaging in this glorification cleanses the heart and fulfills all material and spiritual desires. Therefore, a sincere devotee must always take pleasure in appreciating the activities and character of other devotees.
- The Lord's Pleasure: The Supreme Lord is more satisfied when His pure devotees are glorified than when He is praised directly.
- Divine Arrangements: The Lord intentionally orchestrates tests, victories, and His own appearance in specific families just to establish the eternal fame of His servants.
- The Perfection of the Senses: The ultimate utility of the tongue and the senses is to see, touch, and constantly glorify the transcendental qualities of pure Vaiṣṇavas.
- The Essence of the Bhāgavatam: The complete knowledge of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam consists of hearing the combined, inseparable glories of Kṛṣṇa and His associates.
