Theme Analysis
The philosophical essence of this category draws the mind's attention to the exquisite beauty and absolute power concentrated in the eyebrows of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In the practice of aṣṭāṅga-yoga and pure bhakti-yoga, the devotee is advised to meditate sequentially on the beautiful features of the Lord. His arched, dancing eyebrows are so exceptionally charming that they put the grace of swimming fish to shame and possess the spiritual potency to conquer Cupid (the sex-god), freeing the meditating sage from the agonizing charms of material sense attraction. However, these same eyebrows are also the ultimate instruments of cosmic destruction and absolute supremacy. In the universal form, supreme personalities like Brahmā reside within the movements of the Lord's eyebrows, and Yamarāja (the lord of death) is generated from them. When the time for cosmic devastation arrives, Lord Anantadeva (or Saṅkarṣaṇa) exhibits slight anger; simply by a flick or expansion of His eyebrows, the eleven Rudras (expansions of Lord Śiva) emerge to annihilate the entire creation. Whether displaying fierce anger to frighten the ocean as Lord Rāmacandra, or expressing sweet, nectarean affection while speaking to Kardama Muni, the eyebrows of the Lord reflect His supreme, unchallengeable will.
- Unmatched Transcendental Beauty: The arched, dancing eyebrows of the Supreme Lord are infinitely more beautiful than those of any demigod. Meditating on this beauty completely captivates the devotee's mind.
- Conquering Material Lust: The charming movements of the Lord's eyebrows possess the specific spiritual potency to charm the sex-god (Cupid). By meditating on them, a yogī easily forgets all mundane sense attraction.
- Expressions of Pure Affection: When the Lord speaks to His pure devotees, such as the great sage Kardama, He uses nectarean words, and His eyebrows move with profound grace and supreme affection.
- The Seat of Universal Control: In the universal form (virāṭ-rūpa), the movements of the Lord's eyebrows control the destinies of supreme personalities like Lord Brahmā, and they are the generative source of Yamarāja.
- The Flick of Devastation: The supreme power of the Absolute Truth is demonstrated by the fact that He requires no weapons to destroy the universe. Invincible time and cosmic devastation are unleashed simply by a flick or expansion of His eyebrows.
- The Emergence of Rudra: When the Lord desires to wind up the cosmic manifestation, He exhibits anger. From between His two arched eyebrows, the fierce, three-eyed Rudras emerge to execute the annihilation.
