Theme Analysis
The philosophical essence of this category highlights the dynamic, personal, and transcendental nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead's movements ("going"). The Vedic literatures state that the Lord is completely absolute; therefore, He does not possess material legs, yet He can go faster than the speed of the mind. He goes wherever He desires, whether by expanding Himself to visit multiple devotees simultaneously or by traveling across the universe to rescue the pious. On an intimate level, as the Paramātmā (Supersoul), the Lord's going is an expression of His supreme friendship; He patiently goes with the conditioned soul from one body to another, waiting for the soul to turn its face back to Him. In His earthly pastimes, the Lord's going is full of profound emotion and instruction. Lord Rāmacandra went to the forest to honor His father's word, displaying perfect renunciation, while Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu frequently went to see Lord Jagannātha in ecstatic devotion. Even the Deities in the temple, who are non-different from the Lord, can "go" and move to reciprocate with the pure love of Their devotees.
- Transcendental Movement: The Supreme Lord's movement is not restricted by material physics. Although the Vedas describe Him as apāṇi-pādo (without material hands and legs), He can go anywhere instantly simply by His supreme will.
- The Eternal Companion: The Supersoul's movement is a testament to His causeless mercy. When the living entity transmigrates from body to body throughout the material world, the Lord goes with them as a constant, waiting friend.
- Pastimes of Renunciation and Duty: The Lord descends to set the perfect example. Lord Rāmacandra's going to the forest, leaving behind all opulence without hesitation, demonstrates the supreme standard of a dutiful son and a liberated soul.
- Simultaneous Presence: Because the Lord is absolute, He can go to multiple places at once. To please two different devotees, Lord Kṛṣṇa expanded Himself and went to both their houses simultaneously, without either knowing about the other.
- The Living Deity: To a pure devotee, the Deity form of the Lord is not a statue. Because God is fully potent, if a devotee has pure conviction, the Deity can speak, eat, and even physically go with the devotee.
