Category:God's Interests
Theme Analysis
The philosophical essence of this category completely redefines the concept of "oneness" and self-interest. In the material world, everyone is fiercely competing to satisfy their own separate, personal interests. Mixed devotees approach God with this same separatist mentality, hoping the Supreme Lord will fulfill their material demands. However, the Vedic literatures explain that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is absolutely complete in Himself; He has no personal self-interest or unfulfilled desires. When He descends or acts, it is entirely for the interest and welfare of His devotees. True spiritual perfection—real oneness with God—does not mean merging into His existence to become as great as Him. Rather, oneness means completely merging our desires with His desires. A pure devotee recognizes no separate interest; they use all the results of their activities exclusively to serve the transcendental interests of the Lord. Arjuna perfectly demonstrated this on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra, abandoning his personal family sentiments to fight strictly for the Lord's interest. Ultimately, when the Lord asks us to surrender to His interest, it is not because He needs us; it is because aligning our interests with His is the only way we can ever achieve true, eternal happiness.
- The Fullness of the Lord: Because the Supreme Personality of Godhead is absolutely complete, He has no personal self-interest or needs to fulfill. Whatever He does, whether appearing in the sacrificial arena or begging from Bali Mahārāja, is strictly for the welfare of His devotees.
- Redefining Oneness: The living entity is an infinitesimal part of God and can never equal Him in greatness. True "oneness" means an absolute unity of interest, where the devotee's desires perfectly match the desires of the Supreme Lord.
- The Practical Example of Arjuna: Pure devotional service means sacrificing personal sentiments for the satisfaction of the Lord. Arjuna became the prime ācārya because he gave up his bodily affection for his relatives to fight for Śrī Kṛṣṇa's interest.
- The Separatist Mentality: Maintaining an interest separate from God's is the definition of material consciousness. Neophyte or mixed devotees operate with this separatist mentality, viewing God merely as an order-supplier for their own sense gratification.
- Our Ultimate Welfare: Surrendering to the Lord's interest is not for the Lord's benefit; it is strictly for our own. Because we are parts and parcels of God, our self-interest achieves perfection only when it coincides with His.
