Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains the absolute, independent nature of everything that is God's own. Unlike the conditioned souls, who are forced to act by the laws of material nature, the Supreme Personality of Godhead does everything by His own independent will, potency, and sweet pleasure. Whether He is creating the universe, annihilating it, or descending as an incarnation, He does so by His own internal energy (ātma-māyā). Everything within the universe is owned by Him. Śrīla Prabhupāda also highlights that the Lord is self-sufficient (svāśrayāśraya) and takes special care of His own devotees, even breaking His own promise to protect the promise of His pure devotee. Furthermore, when the Lord disappears from this world, He does so in His own eternal, transcendental body, never leaving behind a material corpse.

  • The Absolute Independence of the Lord: The Supreme Lord is completely self-sufficient and acts solely by His own supreme will, remaining perfectly transcendental to the laws of karma and material nature.
  • Expanding by the Internal Potency: When Kṛṣṇa descends to the material world, He is not forced into a material body; He appears in His own original, eternal form by His internal spiritual energy.
  • The Supreme Proprietor and Maintainer: The entire cosmic manifestation is created, owned, and controlled by the Lord's own potencies, demonstrating that He is the ultimate owner of everything.
  • The Eternal Reality of His Abode: In the spiritual sky, the Lord resides in His own transcendental abode, Goloka Vṛndāvana, where everything is eternal, blissful, and completely free from material misery.
  • The Boundless Affection for His Devotees: Although the Lord is equal to everyone, He is extraordinarily partial and affectionate to His own surrendered devotees, going so far as to sacrifice His own promise to uphold theirs.
