Category:God's Partiality
Theme Analysis
Śrīla Prabhupāda addresses the common misconception regarding God's partiality. Because the Supreme Lord protects the demigods and His pure devotees while vanquishing the demons, less intelligent persons and atheists frequently accuse Him of being biased. However, the Lord is the equal well-wisher of all living entities (suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām). His apparent favoritism is simply the natural reciprocation of a loving father toward His affectionate, surrendered children. Furthermore, the material conditions of victory and defeat are dictated by the three modes of material nature, not by any bias of the Supreme Lord. By analyzing the questions of great sages like Parīkṣit Mahārāja and the explanations of Śukadeva Gosvāmī, one can clearly understand that the Lord's actions are always based on absolute, all-pervading mercy rather than mundane partiality or enmity.
- The Illusion of Partiality: Although the Supreme Lord appears to act with bias by favoring the demigods over the demons, this partiality is an external illusion. God is completely absolute and equal to all.
- The Natural Reciprocation of Love: The Lord's special care for His pure devotees is not mundane partiality, but a perfectly natural reciprocation of love, much like a father's affectionate attention to an obedient child.
- Questions and Accusations of Partiality: Throughout the Vedic literatures, great sages like Parīkṣit Mahārāja inquire about this apparent contradiction, while demons like Hiraṇyakaśipu foolishly accuse the Lord of childish bias.
- The Lord's Absolute Impartiality: Victory and defeat in the material world are governed by the modes of nature (guṇas). The Supreme Lord, functioning as the Supersoul in everyone's heart, facilitates the free will of every living entity without a trace of enmity or favoritism.

- Behind material nature is the Supreme Personality of Godhead; but one's victory and loss under the influence of sattva-guna, rajo-guna and tamo-guna are reactions of these modes, not of the Supreme Lord's partiality
- By such transcendental activities the Lord simultaneously becomes free from the charge of partiality and exhibits His pleasure with the devotees
H
- He (Krsna) is called the well-wisher for the devotees only. He appears to be partial to His devotees, but factually the matter rests on the living being to accept or reject equal treatment by the Lord
- He (the Lord) does not fear the asuras. Thus there is no question of partiality in the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Hiranyakasipu thought that Visnu also becomes partial, like a child whose mind is not steady or resolute. The Lord can change His mind at any time, Hiranyakasipu thought, and therefore His words and activities are like those of children

- Pariksit inquired: My dear brahmana, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu, being everyone's well-wisher, is equal and extremely dear to everyone. How, then, did He become partial like a common man for the sake of Indra and thus kill Indra's enemies?
- Partiality in receiving the Lord's mercy is relative to the recipient, and it is not due to the partiality of the all-merciful Lord
- Partiality, neutrality and all such qualities are present in God; otherwise they could not be experienced in the creation
S
- Since the Lord is equally disposed toward everyone, how can He be partial?
- Since the Lord says that He is suhrdam sarva-bhutanam (BG 5.29), the well-wisher of all living entities, how could He act with partiality by killing demons? These questions arose in the heart of Pariksit Maharaja, and he inquired from Sukadeva Gosvami

- The demon Hiranyakasipu accused the Lord of being partial because the demigods worshiped Him, but in fact the Lord, like the government, is not partial at all
- The full potency of the Absolute Truth is not realized in the brahmajyoti; therefore Brahman realization is only partial realization of the Personality of Godhead
- The Lord is equal to all living entities. Since the demigods and demons are both living entities, how is it possible that the Lord was partial to one class of living beings and opposed to another
- The question may be raised why the Lord, who is all-merciful, helps one to remember and another to forget. Actually, His mercy is not exhibited in partiality towards one and enmity towards another
- The soul is extremely dear to everyone, and similarly the Supersoul is also dear to everyone. Thus there cannot be any faulty action on the part of the Supersoul
- The visibility of one's qualities doesn't depend on the partiality of God; it is due to various coverings in different proportions. Thus one can understand how far he has advanceod in terms of sattva-guna & how much he is covered by rajo-guna & tamo-guna
- There is no chance of a devotee's being in error, nor is there any partiality on the part of the Lord for His pure devotees
- This (God is equal to everyone, because of natural affection He favors His devotees) partiality of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is natural. A person cares for his children not because of partiality but in a reciprocation of love
