Category:God's Promise
Theme Analysis
Śrīla Prabhupāda explains the absolute reliability and compassionate nature of God's promise. In the Bhagavad-gītā, the Supreme Lord boldly declares that His devotee will never perish. The Supreme Personality of Godhead never breaks His word of honor; He promises to protect His surrendered devotees, supply all their necessities, and deliver them from the cycle of birth and death. Remarkably, the Lord is so merciful and affectionate that He will even break His own promise just to keep the promise of His pure devotee, as He did for Grandfather Bhīṣma on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra. Understanding the infallibility of the Lord's promises brings absolute fearlessness and peace to the sincere practitioner of bhakti-yoga.
- The Supreme Assurance: The Supreme Lord gives His absolute word of honor that anyone who surrenders unto Him will be fully protected from all material dangers and miseries.
- Providing for the Devotees: The Lord personally guarantees that He will supply all the necessities and maintain the welfare of those who are fully engaged in His devotional service.
- The Promise of Deliverance: God promises to swiftly deliver His unalloyed devotees from the ocean of birth and death, bringing them back home, back to Godhead.
- Glorifying the Devotee: Displaying the highest standard of transcendental love, the Supreme Lord is willing to sacrifice His own promise in order to uphold the vow made by His pure devotee.
