Category:God's Responsibilities
Theme Analysis
The scope of the Supreme Lord's responsibilities represents a profound balance between His absolute supremacy and His loving reciprocation with the living entities. Śrīla Prabhupāda clarifies that although God is the ultimate creator and controller of the cosmic manifestation, He remains completely aloof from the karmic reactions of the conditioned souls. The Lord provides the facilities and the laws of nature, but the individual soul is entirely responsible for its own happiness, distress, bondage, or liberation based on its misuse of free will. However, if a soul fully surrenders to the order of the Lord, God assumes total responsibility for that devotee's protection. Furthermore, although the Supreme Lord has no obligations, He accepts voluntary responsibilities during His transcendental pastimes, perfectly fulfilling His roles as an ideal son, a chivalrous husband, and the ultimate protector of His pure devotees.
- The Unattached Controller: Although the Supreme Lord provides the material facilities for the living entities, He is completely detached and not responsible for their karmic choices, suffering, or happiness.
- The Burden of Free Will: The conditioned souls bear full responsibility for their own elevation or degradation within the material world, as their conditions are dictated by their own desires and actions.
- Voluntary Transcendental Roles: Despite having all of His work executed by His various energies, the Supreme Lord voluntarily accepts responsibilities in His pastimes to taste the sweetness of loving relationships.
- Perfect Execution of Duties: Whether playing the part of a cowherd boy, a son, or a king with thousands of wives, Lord Kṛṣṇa discharges every assumed responsibility with absolute perfection.
- Protection of the Surrendered: When a living entity gives up independent action and acts solely according to the will of God, the Supreme Lord takes full responsibility for that soul's deliverance.
