Category:God Is Isvara
Theme Analysis
The philosophical essence of this category establishes the absolute authority of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the ultimate controller, or Īśvara. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that while there may be many relative controllers in the material world—such as a father controlling a family or a president controlling a nation—none of them are independent. They are all controlled by someone else. God, however, is the parameśvara, the supreme controller who is never controlled by anyone or anything. As the Paramātmā, He resides in the heart of every living entity, directing their wanderings and supplying their intelligence. Because He is fully transcendental, He is never touched by māyā or the material modes of nature. Understanding this absolute position completely defeats the foolish Māyāvāda philosophy which claims that any ordinary living entity can become God.
- The Definition of Īśvara: The Sanskrit word Īśvara means controller. While there are many relative controllers in the universe, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the parameśvara, the one who controls everything but is controlled by no one.
- The Director in the Heart: As the Supersoul (Paramātmā), the supreme Īśvara sits within the core of everyone's heart, intimately witnessing their desires and giving them the direction needed to fulfill them.
- Transcendental to Māyā: Unlike the conditioned living entities who are controlled by the material modes of nature, the Supreme Lord is the controller of māyā. He remains eternally transcendental and unaffected by material dualities.
- Refuting False Controllers: It is impossible for an ordinary living entity to become the supreme Īśvara. Anyone claiming to be God must practically prove it by demonstrating omnipotence, such as being present within the atom and within everyone's heart simultaneously.
