Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category establishes that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa or Viṣṇu, is the absolute and ultimate master of all material and spiritual energies. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the fundamental distinction between God and the living entity is that God is the eternal master and the living entity is the eternal servant. The suffering of material existence begins when the conditioned soul falsely claims proprietorship and artificially attempts to imitate the all-powerful master. Conversely, true liberation and transcendental peace are achieved when the living entity abandons the illusion of independence and joyfully accepts their constitutional position as the unmotivated servant of Bhagavān. Furthermore, approaching the Lord with material desires, hoping to make Him an order-supplier, is a flawed approach; one must approach God with the sincere desire to serve His supreme will.

  • The Master of All Energies: The Supreme Lord is the original creator, maintainer, and master of the inconceivable material and spiritual potencies. He is never controlled by the external energy; rather, He dictates its actions.
  • The Eternal Relationship: The constitutional relationship between the Supreme Lord and the living entity is that of master and servant. This relationship is eternal, natural, and full of transcendental joy when properly realized.
  • The Illusion of Independence: Material conditioning is characterized by the false, puffed-up consciousness that the individual soul is the master or proprietor. Imitating the supreme master is the root cause of illusion.
  • The Proper Approach: To make real spiritual advancement, one must approach God as the master to be served, not as a servant to supply material demands. Only a sincere, unmotivated servant can fully satisfy the Lord.
