Category:Nature of a Devotee of God
Theme Analysis
The category Nature of a Devotee of God reveals the exalted qualities and characteristics of a pure Vaiṣṇava. According to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the foremost nature of a devotee is constant absorption in the Supreme Lord. Whether through offering prayers, remembering Kṛṣṇa, or seeing His presence in everything, a pure devotee cannot forget the Lord even for a moment. This intense attachment makes transcendental topics appear newer and newer to them, while they remain completely aloof from mundane subjects.
Furthermore, a true devotee is characterized by profound humility and complete dependence on the Lord. Unlike the materialists who falsely claim to be God, a Vaiṣṇava humbly acknowledges his position as an eternal servant, always feeling incompetent and unqualified despite their exalted status. They strictly follow the instructions of their guru and accept whatever Kṛṣṇa provides without independent ambition.
Another defining trait of a pure devotee is boundless compassion. A Vaiṣṇava is naturally pained to see the suffering of others in this material world. Like Draupadī or Parīkṣit Mahārāja, they often overlook their own grievances and dedicate their lives to the welfare of others, bestowing blessings even upon offenders. Ultimately, a pure devotee is ready to sacrifice everything for the transcendental loving service of the Lord, exhibiting ecstatic emotions and providing spiritual literature to benefit the entire world.
- Constant Absorption: The primary nature of a pure devotee is that they never forget Kṛṣṇa; they see His presence in everything and relish hearing His glories constantly.
- Profound Humility: A Vaiṣṇava never falsely claims to be God; they naturally feel themselves to be the lowest, most incompetent servants of the Lord.
- Boundless Compassion: True devotees are deeply aggrieved by the suffering of others and dedicate their lives to distributing Kṛṣṇa consciousness to alleviate that pain.
- Transcendental Sacrifice: A pure devotee sacrifices everything for the satisfaction of the Lord, experiencing ecstatic symptoms and naturally producing transcendental literature.
