Category:Neglecting God
Theme Analysis
The path of spiritual realization is fraught with danger for those who attempt to bypass the Supreme Personality of Godhead. According to Vedic philosophy, neglecting God is the fundamental cause of all material suffering and spiritual falldown. Many transcendentalists, such as Māyāvādī philosophers, jñānīs, and followers of the Patañjali yoga system, undergo severe austerities and acquire vast knowledge to elevate themselves to the impersonal Brahman platform. However, because they neglect to worship the personal lotus feet of the Supreme Lord in love and devotion, their endeavors are ultimately futile, and they are forced to return to material existence. Neglecting the Lord's transcendental form renders anyone a failure on every path of life.
Neglecting God extends beyond merely ignoring His form; it crucially includes disobeying His instructions and offending His representatives. The scriptures confirm that offending a pure devotee is synonymous with neglecting the Supreme Lord Himself. To neglect the order of the spiritual master or to disrespect exalted Vaiṣṇavas, as Dakṣa did to Lord Śiva, invites immediate spiritual disaster.
The consequences of such negligence are severe. The great ācārya Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura lamented that neglecting to worship the Lord in the human form of life is akin to willingly drinking poison. Historical examples, such as Nārada Muni being cursed to become a śūdra in his previous life for neglecting the order to glorify the Lord, serve as stark warnings. In the current degraded age of Kali, people naturally abandon cleanliness and adopt nonsensical principles solely because they neglect the Supreme Lord. Thus, the only protection from the miseries of material illusion is to abandon all negligence and take full shelter of Kṛṣṇa and His devotees.
- The Fall of the Impersonalists: Māyāvādīs, jñānīs, and yogīs who achieve high stages of renunciation still fall down because they neglect the personal worship of the Lord's lotus feet.
- Rejecting the Lord's Form: Foolish individuals who cannot appreciate the beauty of the Lord's personal form and neglect His direct instructions are condemned in the Bhagavad-gītā.
- Offending the Devotees: Neglecting the orders of the spiritual master or offending a pure devotee is considered a direct offense and neglect of the Supreme Lord Himself.
- The Price of Negligence: Neglecting the worship of God leads to terrible consequences, curses, and the widespread degradation of human society seen in Kali-yuga.
