Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that the entire world is anxiously striving for peace through various organizations like the United Nations, yet these efforts continually fail because they lack the proper spiritual foundation. The actual peace formula is clearly enunciated by the Supreme Lord Himself in the Bhagavad-gītā (5.29). To achieve lasting peace, or śānti, human society must understand three absolute facts: Kṛṣṇa is the supreme enjoyer of all activities, the supreme proprietor of all planets, and the supreme well-wishing friend of all living entities. When we accept this formula, recognizing that we are all children of the Supreme Father with the right to use His property without encroaching on others, global harmony naturally follows.

  • The Illusion of Godless Peace: Political organizations fail to establish world peace because they attempt to build a kingdom of God without God. True peace is impossible when society remains atheistic and absorbed in sense gratification.
  • The Supreme Enjoyer: The root of the peace formula is the realization that the Supreme Lord is the sole beneficiary and enjoyer of all human activities.
  • The Supreme Proprietor: Wars and conflicts arise from false claims of ownership. Recognizing that God is the actual proprietor of the entire universe (all lokas) prevents individuals and nations from encroaching upon the property of others.
  • The Supreme Friend: Rather than relying on fallible human leaders, society must recognize Kṛṣṇa as the supreme, sincere friend of all living entities (suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ). This realization brings ultimate fearlessness and tranquility.
