Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that a perfect human being is not simply a biological entity, but a spiritually awakened individual who questions the nature of material suffering and seeks its ultimate solution. To become perfect, a human being must be guided by a bona fide guru and trained through the Vedic institution of varṇāśrama-dharma and its reformatory processes (saṁskāras). A perfect human being is a pure devotee who recognizes that God provides all necessities, strictly follows regulative principles like celibacy and vegetarianism, and ultimately attains the highest stage of love of God (prema). Through Lord Caitanya’s saṅkīrtana movement, anyone, regardless of their social background, has the opportunity to achieve this perfection.

  • Awakening from Material Suffering: A human life truly begins when one questions their suffering and strives to purify their existence by following regulative principles, avoiding animalistic activities like illicit sex.
  • The Vedic Training System: To develop perfect consciousness, human beings must be trained through the varṇāśrama system and purified by various saṁskāras, or reformatory processes, from the very beginning of life.
  • The Necessity of Spiritual Guidance: Perfection is impossible without the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master. By taking shelter of the guru and engaging in the worship of the Supreme Lord, even the most fallen can be rectified.
  • Attaining the Highest Perfection of Love: The ultimate standard for a perfect human being is to achieve prema, unalloyed love for God. Lord Caitanya freely distributes this perfection through the saṅkīrtana movement.
