Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that perfect instruction cannot originate from imperfect human beings or speculative scientists; it must come directly from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, or His bona fide representative in the disciplic succession. The Bhagavad-gītā is the ultimate manual of perfect instruction. Even if a conditioned soul is full of imperfections, simply by accepting and strictly following the flawless directions of the Lord and the spiritual master, they automatically become perfect. The ultimate conclusion of all perfect instruction is that no one can ever find true happiness in the material world; real peace is only achieved by returning back home, back to Godhead.

  • The Source of Infallible Knowledge: Genuine instruction descends only from Kṛṣṇa and His authorized representatives. Anyone who manufactures their own ideas or contradicts the Lord is a rascal unable to benefit human society.
  • The Supreme Manual for Humanity: The Bhagavad-gītā contains the absolute, flawless directions for human life. By accepting its teachings as they are, any intelligent person can achieve spiritual perfection.
  • Submitting to the Spiritual Master: To receive these instructions properly, one must find a bona fide guru and surrender fully. The disciple's sole qualification is the sincere endeavor to follow the perfect instructions of the master.
  • The Ultimate Conclusion: The final goal of all transcendental instruction is to awaken the conditioned soul to their actual position. The Lord and the ācāryas repeatedly emphasize that true happiness is impossible in the material world and can only be found by returning back to Godhead.
