Category:Wanting Liberation

The ultimate goal of spiritual life transcends the mere desire for freedom from material suffering, which is often the focus of those wanting liberation. Through a comprehensive study of the Vedic literature, one learns that a pure devotee is entirely satisfied serving the Supreme Lord and does not covet mystic perfections or merging into the impersonal brahmajyoti. Although the Supreme Lord easily grants mukti to anyone who desires it, He keeps pure devotional service hidden. True liberation naturally follows a devotee because engaging in unalloyed bhakti inherently means one is completely freed from the bodily conception of life.

  • Rejecting Mystic Powers and Salvation: A pure devotee does not desire any of the five kinds of liberation or material prosperity, remaining perfectly satisfied as long as they are engaged in the loving service of the Lord.
  • The Easy Attainment of Salvation: If someone approaches the Supreme Personality of Godhead merely wanting liberation from material entanglement, the Lord easily delivers this benediction, whereas pure devotion is rarely achieved.
  • Freedom from the Bodily Concept: Real liberation means becoming completely free from material consciousness and realizing that one is a spiritual soul, not the material body.
  • Service Surpasses Salvation: Even without achieving so-called liberation, a surrendered soul remains aspirational for the satisfaction of the Lord, dedicating their life to serving His lotus feet life after life.
  • The Compassion of the Sages: Instead of going to the Himālayas solely for their personal spiritual benefit, great devotees like Prahlāda Mahārāja refuse personal liberation until they can deliver all the fallen souls of the world.
