Theme Analysis

Śrīla Prabhupāda establishes a very logical and practical principle: to enter any specific environment, one must acquire the necessary qualifications and a suitable body. Just as one needs the body of a fish to enter the water or an adjusted suit to enter outer space, one must be completely purified to enter the spiritual kingdom. God is pure, and therefore anyone wanting to enter His supreme abode must also be pure, humble, and free from material desires. While some transcendentalists are satisfied merely entering the spiritual effulgence, the pure Vaiṣṇava wants to enter the highest spiritual planet, Goloka Vṛndāvana, to engage in the Lord's intimate pastimes. Conversely, the conditioned soul originally wanted to enter the material world for independent enjoyment, effectively entering a prison house. Even at the time of death, a deeply materially attached soul may refuse to enter a new physical body, resulting in a miserable ghostly existence.

  • The Law of Environmental Adjustment: To enter a specific atmosphere—whether water, fire, or another planet—one must have a corresponding body and constitutional adjustment.
  • Purity and Humility: The kingdom of God is pure and is reserved for the meek and humble. Therefore, anyone wanting to enter must undergo complete spiritual purification.
  • Entering the Highest Planet: Pure devotees are not satisfied with merging into the Brahman effulgence; they specifically want to enter Kṛṣṇaloka to associate with the Lord personally.
  • Following in the Footsteps: To enter into the most confidential pastimes of the Lord, such as the rasa dance, one must perfectly follow the mood and devotion of the pure residents of Vṛndāvana.
  • Material Attachment and Ghostly Life: Materialistic life is like choosing to enter a prison. When deeply attached to this temporary arrangement, a soul may not want to enter its next physical body at death, forcing it to linger as a ghost.
