Category:Without Attachment

Theme Analysis

The philosophical essence of this category focuses on the practical application of detachment in the execution of one's daily duties. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that true renunciation is not the artificial rejection of the material world, but the process of acting without attachment to the fruitive results. This is known as yukta-vairāgya. Instead of working for personal sense gratification, an intelligent person accepts what is necessary for maintenance and offers the fruits of their labor to the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By acting as a matter of duty without attachment, a devotee remains completely untouched by sinful reactions and makes steady progress on the path back to Godhead.

  • Performing Prescribed Duties: One must not abandon their responsibilities. The highest perfection is achieved by executing obligatory duties faithfully, but entirely without attachment to success, failure, or fruitive rewards.
  • The Principle of Yukta-vairāgya: True detachment means utilizing the objects of the world for the service of the Lord. When everything is accepted in relation to Kṛṣṇa without attachment, it becomes completely spiritualized.
  • Family and Social Obligations: A devotee can live in household life, maintain their family, and conduct business, provided they do so without attachment, guiding everyone involved toward spiritual realization.
  • Freedom from Karmic Reactions: Just as a lotus leaf rests on the water without becoming wet, a person who surrenders the results of their work to the Lord and acts without attachment is never entangled by the reactions of their work.
