Category:Anxiousness of a Devotee of God
Theme Analysis
The state of anxiousness in a conditioned soul is rooted in material insecurity, whereas the anxiousness of a pure devotee is an expression of spiritual vitality. Śrīla Prabhupāda emphatically details what a true devotee is never anxious about. A pure Vaiṣṇava minimizes their defending propensity because they know they are under the supreme shelter of Kṛṣṇa. They are not anxious to possess material resources, acquire a son or disciple, or even enjoy highly palatable dishes. Furthermore, a devotee is entirely devoid of anxiousness regarding spiritual elevation; they do not hanker to go to Svargaloka (heaven) or merge into the Lord's existence through mukti. Śrīla Prabhupāda beautifully compares desiring mukti when one is already engaged in devotional service to a millionaire hankering after ten rupees.
Freed from these selfish concerns, a devotee's anxiousness transforms into profound compassion. Following the standard set by Prahlāda Mahārāja, confidential devotees are not anxious for their own deliverance. Instead, they feel acute anxiousness for the welfare of fallen souls who are working tirelessly for illusory sense gratification. This supreme compassion drives the preaching mission. Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights how his own spiritual master, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, was intensely anxious to bring the cult of Lord Caitanya to the Western countries to save the general populace. Even Mother Devakī, though secure with her own divine son, naturally felt anxious to save the daughter of another from the cruelty of Kaṁsa.
In addition to outward compassion, spiritual anxiousness manifests as an intense inward eagerness for Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Devotees are always anxious to ensure their time is not wasted on anything disconnected from the Supreme Lord. They exhibit a deep eagerness to hear transcendental knowledge, much like Mahārāja Parīkṣit, who anxiously inquired from Śukadeva Gosvāmī about the creation and how to save humanity from gliding down to hell. Advanced practitioners, especially those on the madhyama-adhikārī platform, also develop a specific anxiousness to reside in holy places like Vṛndāvana, Mathurā, and Dvārakā, where they can continuously describe and relish the glories of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes.
- Absence of Selfish Concern: A pure devotee is never anxious about material defense, bodily comforts, or personal liberation, as they are fully satisfied under the Lord's shelter.
- Supreme Compassion: True spiritual anxiousness is directed toward the suffering of others; pure devotees are deeply anxious to preach and deliver conditioned souls from material illusion.
- Eagerness for Knowledge: Like Mahārāja Parīkṣit, sincere devotees are intensely anxious to hear and understand transcendental topics from bona fide spiritual masters.
- Desire for Pure Service: A devotee's personal anxiousness is focused entirely on utilizing every moment for Kṛṣṇa and residing in holy places to facilitate uninterrupted devotional service.
